On Wednesday, cinemagoers were surprised with the trailer of the upcoming biopic about the King of Pop, “Michael” at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Producer Graham King revealed the project will include more than 30 songs and teased it would be “long” in order to do the music star’s story justice.
The trailer began with a look at the Jackson 5 performing “ABC” on TV, and then cut to a 1990s-era concert of Jackson performing “Man in the Mirror.” There are also images of a masked Jackson being hounded by fans and paparazzi. Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael, and in the trailer has a strong resemblance to his uncle and appears to have captured his dancing and stage presence.
“You never were like anyone else,” Jackson’s mother (portrayed in the biopic by Nia Long) says at one point in the trailer.
In voice-over, a grown-up Jackson says of performing: “It transports your entire being. That’s what I want the world to feel like — magic.”
Some of the footage shown to the exhibitor crowd today at the Caesars Colosseum appears to take place during the Off the Wall era as well as that of Bad — “Man in the Mirror” is a key song heard throughout. We also see the pop singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson performing onstage as the King of Pop. At one point, his voice-over says, “When I’m not on stage, everything feels foreign to me.”
A voice-over from what appears to be his mother Katherine Jackson adds, “You have a very special light, so let the light shine into the world.”

The feature has an April 18, 2025, release date. It also stars Colman Domingo as patriarch Joe Jackson and Miles Teller as manager John Branca. The crew of the upcoming biopic was at Neverland Ranch, formerly Michael Jackson home, this past few days.
Fans have witnessed vans, lorries and cars pulling into the property and also it seems that the staff and crew had a BBQ on the property:
But it seems that the filming on site has now ended as Graham King’s company GKFilms have posted a picture of the once-standing gate of Neverland with the moon glowing in the back:

It was a hive of activity as scenes were shot for “Michael”, which will star his 27-year-old nephew Jaafar, as Jackson.
It is due out next year.
The ranch, in Santa Barbara, California, was named after Peter Pan’s fairytale home.
It fell into disuse after Jackson left it in 2005.
The star cleared out shortly after he was acquitted of child abuse charges.
It was bought by US billionaire Ron Burkle in 2020 for almost £18million.
A spokesperson who had also served as Jackson's financial adviser told The New York Times that Burkle had viewed the home as an investment.
There was initial speculation that the Neverland estate would be memorialized in Jackson's memory, much like Elvis Presley's Graceland home, but was placed on the market in 2016.
The house was originally listed for $100million and dropped to $67million the following year.

Two more actors have been added to the list for “Michael”, the biopic about the King of Pop.
Derek Luke, seen in “Captain America: The First Avenger”, “The Purge” and “Antwone Fisher”, will play Jonnie Cochran.
Cochran was Michael Jackson lawyer who represented Michael in the 1993 court case. for the 2005 court case, Michael sought advice from Cochran who recommended defense attorney Thomas Mesereau.
The second actor added to the list is Allan Wayne Anderson mostly known for his roles in “Trace”, “Gaslit” and “NoHo: A North Hollywood Story”, who will play the famous Andy Warhol.

Meanwhile, Siedah Garrett, back up singer on the Dangerous Tour, Co-writer of “Man In The Mirror” and “Keep The Faith” and duet singer for “I Just Cab’t Stop Loving You”, confirmed that her name will not be used in the biopic:
Taj Jackson will be represented in the upcoming biopic as a young Jackson, played by young actor George Hammonds III who will be his first role on the big screen.
It is unknown if the other member of 3T, Tito Jackson’s three sons, Tarryl and TJ will be also portraited in the biopic; or if Taj will also have a older version of himself as Michael Jackson featured in the 3T music video “Why” and the brothers were around Michael during the HIStory era.
And it seems that Taj was aware of his doppelganger as he commented on “X” on one of the fans post:
Frank Dileo to not have a character in “Michael” the biopic
According to Frank Dileo’s daughter, Belinda Dileo, her father will not be mentioned in the upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic.
When Miles Teller was announced to play John Branca early in the casting announcements, I told you that I was outraged that, first of all Branca’s Character was announced before Joe, Katherine or even Frank but also that an A-lister actor should have gone to those character. And I stand by my opinion and it seems that the Estate has decided to erase Frank Dileo from the life story of Michael Jackson.
As fans, we know that Frank has been a huge part of Michael’s career between 1984 and 1989 and was an emblematic manager, just like Elvis with the Colonel.
Like Belinda, I feel it is an absolute disgrace to not have Dileo characterised in the Biopic and it seems that Branca will play the role of the “Colonel” for Michael!
Belinda is urging fans to share photos and videos of her dad and Michael tagging the production company to showcase why he should be represented in the film.
After “Thriller”, Michael asked Frank Dileo to take over as his manager. Frank was the executive producer for “Moonwalker”, executive producer for the 3 Pepsi commercials, responsible for the Pepsi endorsement deal, produced 8 short films including “Leave Me Alone”, managed the Bad Tour and the Victory Tour.
And yes, just like Branca, Dileo was fired allegedly for tampering with the King of Pop’s money. However, in the court case of 2005, Tom Mesereau showcased proofs that Branca indeed stole money from Michael Jackson (let’s not forget that shall we).
I agree, we cannot have every single person who worked with Michael in the movie, not having backup singers, dancers, studio engineers, song writers, record company executives or video directors represented by name is no big deal or not possible. But we know the names of the key people in Michael’s life and Frank is one of them, like it or not.
