Two Part, four our Michael Jackson Documentary about 2005 child molestation and conspiracy trial, Arvizo Family from A&E in June

Now comes a two part, four hour documentary about Jackson’s 2005 child molestation and conspiracy trial from A&E. I’m told the special will air in June on the anniversary of Jackson’s acquittal, which is also two weeks short of 11th anniversary of his death.

The special is being put together by Atlas Entertainment, owned Michael and Michelle Walrath. Michael was described in the New York Times as a “nightlife and tech mogul.” Among their films: “Tapped” and “Fed Up.”

The filmmakers are trying to talk to everyone involved in the 2005 trial including the Arvizo family, who were used by Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon in his vendetta against Jackson. Janet Arvizo and her then 13 year old son Gavin claimed Michael molested the boy. Eighteen grueling months of embarrassing negative publicity culminated in a graphic trial. Thanks to the truth, and defense attorney Thomas Mesereau, Jackson was acquitted. But the episode wore on Jackson and pushed him into a series of misadventures that ended his life four years later.

What will be interesting is to see if the filmmakers can get the Arvizo’s to talk, and get at the truth of what happened. I hear they’ve spoken with Sneddon’s second in command, Ron Zonen, who helped prosecute Jackson. Zonen wound up marrying a prosecution witness, Louise Palanker, who billed herself as a comedian in 2005, and testified for the family. Despite the jury verdict for Jackson, Palanker and Zonen went on to attend Gavin Arvizo’s wedding.

The Arvizo’s claimed that in addition to the molestation, Jackson had “kidnapped” them to keep them quiet. But I reported extensively on the case at the time, and none of that was true. Their so called abduction included first class hotel stays, movies, dinners out, toys, clothes, and for Janet Arvizo, spa days. Janet Arvizo was revealed on the witness stand to be a total nut when Mesereau asked if she thought Michael Jackson would take her kids away in a hot air balloon. She answered in the affirmative. Laughter broke out in courtroom, Judge Melville banged his gavel, and the trial was for most purposes over.

Am 03.06.26 erscheint auf Netflix eine dreiteilige Doku namens "The Verdict", "Das Urteil". Es beleuchtet Michael´s Prozess. Allein die Fragestellung: "Sie entscheiden, schuldig oder unschuldig?" verursacht Augenrollen, denn ein Gericht hat ihn bereits für unschuldig erklärt. Sicherlich keine ausgewogene Doku und nichts, was wir Fans unterstützen sollten! Das Timing der Erscheinung der Doku, noch während das Biopic läuft, ist offensichtlich ... alle wollen auf der Erfolgswelle mitschwimmen und wo Gutes ist, kommt auch das Böse hervor ...

Wir lassen uns davon unsere Laune aber nicht verderben, schenken dem Ganzen keine Aufmerksamkeit und freuen uns für Michael, der derzeit weltweit die Charts anführt und viele viele junge Fans für sich gewinnt. Auch die vielen Events rund um Michael sollten wir einfach nur genießen.

Dennoch: Es ist ein Armutszeugnis für Netflix

Netflix Jumping on the “Michael” Bandwagon… or Trying to Tell the Truth?



As the world celebrates the explosive success of Michael, another media storm is already brewing and this time, it’s coming from Netflix.
The streaming giant has announced Michael Jackson: The Verdict, a new three-part documentary series premiering June 3, focused entirely on Michael Jackson’s 2005 criminal trial. The series promises interviews with jurors, attorneys, reporters, witnesses and people directly connected to the courtroom drama that captivated the world over two decades ago.

And while some will present this as “important storytelling,” MJ fans have every right to ask a very simple question:

Why now?

Let’s be clear from the beginning: this is not a promotion of Netflix’s documentary.

This is a caution.

Because whenever Michael Jackson rises, there always seems to be a machine ready to drag him back into controversy.

The timing is impossible to ignore. The Biopic despite relentless negativity from major media outlets and critics before its release. Many publications predicted failure. Critics. Yet the public response told a completely different story.

Fans embraced it.

Audiences connected with it.

And the results speak for themselves.

Michael Jackson’s music exploded back to the top of charts worldwide. His catalog surged globally. Moonwalk climbed to the top of Amazon’s bestseller rankings again. Streaming numbers skyrocketed. A whole new generation rediscovered the King of Pop.

In other words: Michael Jackson won again.

And when Michael wins, certain parts of the media seem deeply uncomfortable with it.

So now comes a documentary revisiting accusations the world already watched unfold in court; accusations that ended with Michael Jackson being acquitted on all counts.

But here is where the conversation becomes even more important.

Will Netflix present the full story?

Will they show the mountain of evidence that dismantled the allegations?

Will they explain how the 2005 trial ended not only with a “Not Guilty” verdict, but with testimony and evidence that strongly reinforced Michael Jackson’s innocence?

Or will viewers once again be handed a selective narrative designed to keep suspicion alive no matter what the courts concluded?

That is the real concern.

Because Michael Jackson did have his day in court. A real court. With real evidence. Real cross-examinations. Real jurors. And after months of scrutiny, he was acquitted on every single charge.

Yet in today’s media landscape, acquittal often seems irrelevant when the accused is Michael Jackson.

Netflix says the documentary aims to give audiences “a window into what was largely a closed event.” The filmmakers claim they want viewers to feel closer to what happened inside the courtroom.

Fair enough.

But fairness requires balance.

Fairness means including the inconsistencies in the accusations. Fairness means acknowledging the credibility problems surrounding witnesses and accusers. Fairness means remembering that prosecutors failed to convince jurors beyond a reasonable doubt, because the evidence simply was not there.

If the series ignores those realities, then audiences are not getting a documentary.

They are getting another hit piece packaged as “investigation.”

MJ fans should also prepare themselves now for what may follow once the series premieres: renewed debates online, uncomfortable questions from friends or coworkers, sensational headlines, and social media outrage cycles designed to generate clicks.

Do not panic.

Do not react emotionally.

And most importantly: know the facts.

The public conversation around Michael Jackson has always been shaped by powerful media narratives, many of which collapsed under scrutiny. We have seen this pattern repeat itself for decades.

This is why fans should approach Michael Jackson: The Verdict critically and carefully.

Watch what is included.

But also pay attention to what is conveniently left out.

Because the biggest question surrounding this documentary may not be about Michael Jackson at all.

It may be about why the entertainment industry still cannot accept that, even after everything thrown at him, Michael Jackson’s legacy continues to grow stronger than ever.
